Zodiac Stones vs Birth-Month Stones: Why People Wear Both
Maya Chen · Apr 25, 2026 · 6 min read
Pisces and aquamarine. Leo and peridot. The zodiac tradition runs parallel to the modern birth-month list — and many people wear one of each.
The modern birth-month list (January = garnet, February = amethyst, …) was standardized in 1912. The older zodiac-stone tradition assigns gems by sun sign and goes back over two thousand years.
Many people wear both — a birth-month ring on one hand, a zodiac pendant around the neck. The two stones double the meaning without competing.
If your birth month and zodiac sign overlap (e.g., a March 12 Pisces wearing aquamarine), you get both — most-loved combo.
